What is BAL Flame Zone?
BAL-FZ (Bushfire Attack Level — Flame Zone) is the highest bushfire risk rating under AS 3959. Properties in Flame Zone require specific construction methods and equipment placement to withstand direct flame contact. Betar Air has experience designing and installing air conditioning systems that meet these stringent requirements across the Blue Mountains.
Actron Air Ducted with Airtouch Aftermarket Modification — South Bowenfels

Airtouch Smart Zoning Retrofit
The Airtouch 5 aftermarket modification upgrades a standard Actron Air ducted system with per-zone climate control. Motorised zone dampers are installed in the ductwork, allowing individual rooms to be turned on or off, set to different temperatures, and scheduled automatically — all from the Airtouch app or the wall-mounted touchscreen controller.
- Energy savings by only conditioning rooms in use
- Smartphone app control — adjust zones from anywhere
- Compatible with existing Actron Air ducted units
Cracked Heat Exchanger — Wentworth Falls
During a routine gas heater service in Wentworth Falls, Jacob identified a cracked heat exchanger — a critical safety fault that can allow carbon monoxide (CO) to leak into the living space. The heat exchanger is the metal component that separates combustion gases from the air circulating through your home. When it cracks, those gases — including odourless, invisible carbon monoxide — can mix with your breathing air. The system was immediately tagged out of service and replaced. Diagnosed by Jacob Betar / Betar Air.

Why a cracked heat exchanger is dangerous
A cracked heat exchanger in a gas ducted heater is a serious safety hazard. Combustion gases — including carbon monoxide, which is odourless, colourless and potentially fatal — can escape into the air circulating through your home. In the Blue Mountains, where gas heating is essential during freezing winters, annual servicing and carbon monoxide testing is critical. If your gas heater is over 10 years old, hasn't been serviced in the last 12 months, or you notice a yellow flame, soot marks or a strange smell, call 0452 278 411 immediately.
